Myobrace® explained
Myobrace® is frequently described as a “pre-orthodontic treatment” for developing patients aged five to 15. It can prevent the need for conventional orthodontic systems, such as braces, by addressing mouth-breathing and other behaviors that negatively affect oral development. Among our pediatric patients, Myobrace® involves a combination of oral appliances and daily exercises. The appliances are worn daily for one to two hours and overnight, while the exercises are designed to enhance healthy respiration, support proper muscle function, and promote appropriate tongue posture.
Among our more “seasoned” patients, Myobrace® involves a range of three different oral appliances:
- A1 – This comfortable appliance flexes to achieve proper breathing through the nose while correcting damaging mouth-breathing.
- A2 – After healthy nasal patterns are established with the A1, our adult patients move on to this second appliance. Defined as an “arch expander,” the firmer A2 is designed to create more space in the palate. In turn, the A2 facilitates optimal tongue posture for further habit correction.
- A3 – The final and most firm appliance in this series, the A3 helps retain the expanded arch achieved with the A2 and refines remaining misalignment and bite problems.
