  • Saltwater: Warm water with a ½ tsp of salt can control bacteria buildup and reduce inflammation in your gums. Make sure you rinse for 30 seconds before you spit it out. 
  • Turmeric Paste: Turmeric has remarkable anti-inflammatory properties. Mix 1 tsp of ground turmeric with ½ tsp of salt and ½ tsp of mustard oil and massage the paste over your gums twice a day. 
  • Cloves: Whole cloves are a natural source of eugenol, a pain-relieving compound. You can either apply clove oil to the affected area or place whole cloves on your teeth and gums and gently crush them between your teeth.

If you brush too aggressively, you can damage your tooth enamel and cause your gums to recede away from your teeth. You can help prevent this with a soft-bristled toothbrush, or, better yet, an electric one. These can effectively disrupt plaque and remove food without causing damage. 

 Oil pulling can help loosen plaque and food stuck to your teeth and gums. Most people prefer using coconut oil because of its pleasant taste, but any oil will work. Swish the oil around in your mouth for 10-20 minutes, then spit it into the trash can. Then, rinse your mouth out and floss and brush your teeth like normal. You may find your teeth are feeling better after a few days.
